Starting Line Corrals:
In an effort to provide every one of our participants with as comfortable a run as possible, Starting Line Corrals will be enforced at this year’s event. The corral system assures a smooth and safe start by lining up participants of similar pace in the same area.
Runners who identify themselves as Elite Male (<18:20 5K or <38:00 10K) or Elite Female (<19:50 5K or <40:00 10K) during registration will qualify for the seeded corral up front. All other participants are asked to line up in the appropriate corrals. Large signs identifying each corral will be displayed along the starting line area. Please be courteous and look for the corral that fits you best.
Corral A: Elite Runners
Corral B: General Runners
Corral C: General Walkers
Corral D: Walkers with Strollers
Each participant will receive an official (gun) time which is recorded from the start of the race, signaled by the air horn, to the point where the participant crosses the finish line AND a net or “chip time” via the electronic timing system that measures the elapsed time from when the participant crosses the starting line to the point where the participant crosses the finish line. Per USATF rules, only the official (gun) times qualify for course records. Participants shall assemble for the race in their assigned corral not less than 10 minutes prior to the start of the race.
Race officials reserve the right to disqualify or remove any participant whose activity may be unsafe and post potential harm to themselves and/or other participants. For the safety of all, as well as, insurance reasons the following are PROHIBITED by participants for use on the race course: skates, roller shoes, bicycles, scooters, skateboards and any gas or electrical operated vehicles. Additionally, DOGS will NOT BE ALLOWED in either the 5K or 10K due to insurance restrictions and children on the course (you just don’t want your dog to bite a child – NOT worth it).
Participants in the 5K opting to bring baby strollers, wagons, etc. are asked to please line up near the rear of the starting line corrals in corral D (walkers with strollers). Strollers, wagons, etc. are allowed in the 5K ONLY.
For timing and permit reasons the 10K is a RUN ONLY event. Walkers are NOT PERMITTED. Failure to abide by any of these rules can result in disqualification and removal from the Run.
Professional timing will be provided by Racewire using a bib chip timing system.
Mile Markers, Clocks and 10K Split Times:
The courses will include mile markers with clocks and/or split callers at the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 mile points as well as the finish line.
Stations are located both at the finish line and at the midway point by Center Street Elementary. First aid and portable restrooms available are available at the finish line.
Time Limits/Course Closure:
The race course is opened to traffic on a rolling schedule. Participants are given 1 hour 45 minutes to complete the courses with the finish line closing promptly at 9:45.
Results will be available immediately on-site via numerous electronic kiosks then later in the day via the official race website. Results will also be formally reported to USA Track and Field as official records of the El Segundo Run For Education 5K | 10K.
